Electric Powertrain Control System Components

Electrify Any Truck

Reducing transportation costs and freeing trucks from fossil fuels

Motiv’s patented All-Electric Powertrain uses commercially-available battery packs and motors to make reliable Battery Electric trucks and buses with the same chassis and bodies as their fossil-fueled counterparts. The only difference is what’s powering the truck clean, cheap, stable electricity!

THE MOTIV APC

At the heart of Motiv’s Powertrain is the Motiv Adaptive Power Converter, or APC. The APC is a voltage converter that moves and converts power between batteries and the vehicle. The APC allows Motiv’s system to integrate any number of battery packs with different chemistries, voltages, and current charge and discharge specifications. This fully bidirectional, non-isolated DC-DC converter is used to manage each battery pack’s integration in the powertrain and is manufactured in Hayward, CA.

WHITE PAPERS

The Motiv Advantage

Motiv was founded on the understanding that the commercial vehicle market is ripe for all-electric vehicles, if only one could enable electrification across chassis, bodies, and end-users without starting from scratch each time. Electric vehicles have long been of interest to medium- and heavy-duty fleet owners, but technology advancements have been slow to arrive due to the diversity of needs, low production volumes, high power requirements, and lack of scalable solutions. Motiv’s technology fundamentally changes the options available for fleets. Our patented system topology and deep expertise in dynamic controls, power electronics, and embedded software combine to form an unmatched technology platform on which to produce medium- and heavy-duty all-electric commercial vehicles.

Electric and Natural Gas Overview

Industry experts believe that natural gas and electric vehicles will coexist because they offer solutions for different vehicle applications. Natural gas is a good solution for long haul trucks, while electric is an excellent solution for local delivery vehicles and shuttle buses. Every natural gas vehicle on the road demonstrates one more fleet that is not satisfied with the diesel status quo, which builds the alternative fuels market to the benefit of all alternative fuels, including electricity. This paper outlines all of the factors leading up to this conclusion.

SPEC SHEETS

Google Funded Mountain View Free Community Shuttle Case Study

The goal of the project is to reduce single occupancy vehicle traffic in key Mountain View traffic corridors with a clean transportation alternative and reduce demands on parking in downtown.

Designing Battery Systems

Battery cell technology is evolving rapidly, and the cost/KWh is falling. However, power management is still an obstacle for the wide-spread adoption of battery storage systems. This white paper discusses Motiv’s unique approach to designing and building battery packs and battery management systems.

AmeriPride Electric Walk-in Vans Case Study

In order to attract and retain customers, be stewards of the environment, and improve business operations AmeriPride has invested in sustainable initiatives including zero-emission walk-in vans. These trucks improve driver satisfaction by reducing noise, vibrations, and harmful diesel emissions.
